The University of Nairobi on Thursday 1st October 2026, hosted the inaugural Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK) Students Conference at the University of Nairobi Towers under the theme “Beyond the Classroom: Preparing Students for the Future of Geospatial and Real Estate.”

The event brought together distinguished professionals and sector leaders, including Mr. Maritim Weldon, Director of Surveys; Mr. Eric Nyadimo, President, ISK; Ms. Nelly Bogu Azibhand, Deputy President, ISK; and Prof. David Siriba, Chair, Department of Geospatial and Space Technology, University of Nairobi, among other senior officials and professionals from the geospatial, surveying, land and real estate sectors.

Students from the University of Nairobi, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kenyatta University, Chuka University, Technical University of Mombasa and the University of Eldoret participated in the conference, creating opportunities for cross-institutional learning, networking, mentorship and collaboration.

ISK Deputy President Ms. Nelly Bogu Azibhand challenged students to look beyond academic qualifications and actively develop skills that differentiate them in the evolving job market.

“Go beyond the classroom, go beyond the degree and discover yourself.”

She encouraged students to explore diverse career pathways, embrace technology, build professional networks and continuously upskill.

The conference reinforced a powerful message: a degree is the beginning, not the destination.

Beyond the classroom. Beyond the degree. Dare to stand out.
