The Faculty of Engineering had the privilege of hosting the esteemed Professor Noel Schulz from Washington State University on the 18th and 19th of May 2023. During her visit, Prof. Schulz delivered two enlightening seminars to the eager students, shedding light on the groundbreaking WSU US Department of Energy Project UI-ASSIST. This project showcases cutting-edge advancements in power systems while emphasizing the remarkable efforts of IEEE Smart Village in rural electrification and community empowerment worldwide. The Dean, Prof. Ayub Gitau, along with the Chairman of the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering, Prof. George Kamucha, warmly welcomed Dr. Noel Schulz to the Faculty. During their interaction, Prof. Gitau and Prof. Kamucha discussed the Faculty's ongoing projects in the field of Power and Energy. This exchange of ideas provided a platform for fruitful discussions on the latest advancements and potential collaborations.

In addition to Prof. Schulz's seminars, the faculty arranged for other distinguished professors to share their insights and experiences with the students. Prof. Faith Karanja from the Department of Geospatial and Space Technology presented a brief overview of the SISTAS project, focusing on promoting women's participation in STEM fields. The project aims to encourage more women to pursue Engineering and science courses, empowering them to excel in traditionally male-dominated fields.

Prof. Siphila Mumenya, a respected faculty member from the Department of Civil Engineering, joined the event to inspire and motivate the students. Prof. Mumenya shared her personal engineering journey, reflecting on the early 1980s when she was among only three women pursuing engineering at the university. With great joy, she expressed her satisfaction in witnessing the growing number of women now choosing engineering as a career path. Her story served as an inspiration to all aspiring engineers, particularly women, encouraging them to pursue their dreams fearlessly.
