Majengo visit

A group of university students from CAE visited Majengo slum at Cidarate community hall Nairobi- 13/03/2021. Girls from the community were invited to attend a session with CAE students led by Darren Hart Juma.

Purpose: to mentor the girls there and spearhead the awareness on the Covid 19 pandemic.  We were able to talk to the girls and encourage them to work hard in school.  We donated the sanitary towels to them.

Observation and outcome: What we learnt from this experience is that young adolescent girls tend to be less prepared for menstruation heath management and suffer from anxiety, apprehension, fear, and shame during their menses due to lack of knowledge about menstruation.

In the midst of immeasurable obstacles, these girls face the largest barriers to manage menstruation and this negatively impacts their education and ability to stay in school.

Another challenge is that schools often have inadequate water and sanitation making menstrual hygiene almost impossible to maintain; causing stress and embarrassment for these girls.
