The University of Nairobi on Thursday, 11th December 2025, celebrated 4,504 graduands at its 74th graduation ceremony. The theme, “Empowering Futures for an Innovative and Technologically Driven World,” set the tone for a day of achievement and inspiration.

The Faculty of Engineering proudly presented 79 graduands. This included five PhDs, ten Master’s degrees, and 64 Bachelor’s degrees. The new doctors are: Paul Christopher Kioko (Civil Engineering), Johnson Ngugi (Mechanical Engineering), Wilson Kairu (Nuclear Science), Dorcas Benard (Environmental & Biosystems Engineering), and Oscar Ragang (Electrical and Electronic Engineering).

The ceremony was presided over by Chancellor Prof. Patrick Verkooijen. The Education CS, Hon. Julius Migos Ogamba, was the chief guest. He announced that the government will release two tranches of Sh7.9 billion owed to universities. He also urged universities to prepare for the first Competency-Based Education cohort in 2029, ensuring curricula and infrastructure support innovation.

In his address, Chancellor Verkooijen encouraged graduands to be innovators and leaders. “Your talent is your passport. Your determination is your engine. Your imagination is your compass. Africa is transforming. Step in as pilots, not passengers,” he said.

Council Chair Prof. Chacha Nyaigotti Chacha reminded graduands they are ambassadors of the University. He highlighted the 2023–2027 Strategic Plan, focusing on digitalization, innovation, sustainability, research, and teaching excellence. Graduands, he said, are now active participants in Kenya’s technological transformation.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jesang Hutchinson celebrated the University’s research and innovation achievements. She noted the launch of an MSc in Artificial Intelligence, the establishment of the UoN Innovation Hub, over 1000 research publications, and KSh 6.4 billion in research grants.

Families and friends cheered as graduands walked across the stage. The Faculty of Engineering celebrates its Class of 2025. These graduates are ready to drive innovation, transform industries, and lead Kenya into a technologically empowered future.

Congratulations, Engineers of 2025. Your journey begins now.
