The University of Nairobi is delighted to share a major 2025 research publication: Baseline Assessment of Light-Duty Vehicle Fuel Economy and CO₂ Emissions for Newly Registered Vehicles in Kenya, authored by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Prof. Eng. Ayub Gitau, alongside a multidisciplinary team including Michael Ojudi, James Nyang’aya, Robert Mathenge, George Kibuku, Daniel Okoth, Jonathan Githiga (University of Nairobi), and Zifei Yang and Alexander Tankou (International Council on Clean Transportation, ICCT), offering critical insights into Kenya’s transport sector.
Commissioned by the Government of Kenya, State Department for Transport, and published by GIZ through the IMPROVE project, with data contributions from NTSA, KEBS, KRA, EPRA, and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, the study provides the first comprehensive baseline for fuel efficiency and CO₂ emissions of light-duty vehicles registered in Kenya (2010–2023).
With critical insights for policy, sustainable transport, climate action, and energy planning, the report is essential reading for scholars, policymakers, and researchers.
