The department of real estate and construction management held a two day seminar on ethical practices in the construction industry.
The event brought together students and scholars from the department as well as the various sectors involved in the construction industry. The seminar addressed various ethical issues faced in the construction industry and their possible solutions.
Among the invited guests was prof. Francois Viruly from Cape Town University who tackled the issue of Artificial Intelligence (A.I) and its ethical implications. In his presentation, he posed one of the most controversial questions when it comes to A.I, ‘’should an autonomous car save the driver or pedestrians in case of an emergency?’’
The conference also attracted guests from various industries such as the banking industry which runs closely with the construction industry being the financier.
Emphasis was put in the need to be ethical in all that people do to avoid inconveniences brought about by lack of ethics.
