The University of Nairobi’s Department of Civil and Construction Engineering (CCE), in partnership with the Center for Advanced Engineering Studies (CAES), hosted the 3rd CCE Conference on June 26–27, 2025, at Chandaria Hall, UoN Towers. Themed “Engineering Synergy: Innovating Sustainable Infrastructure for a Resilient Future”, the event brought together engineers, scholars, industry leaders, and government players to discuss the future of infrastructure in Kenya.
The Chief Guest, CPA Ephantus Kimotho, Principal Secretary in the State Department for Irrigation, represented by Eng Micheal Thuita, Irrigation Secretary, State Department for Irrigation applauded the University for creating a platform where ideas can translate into practical solutions that touch lives.
The conference served as a meeting point between academia and industry, with a strong focus on collaboration, practical research, and alignment with global engineering standards.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Mumenya, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, challenged engineers to design with resilience in mind, especially in the face of rapid urbanization and climate change. Prof. Mulaa, DVC for Research, Innovation and Enterprise, emphasized the need to make engineering accessible and relevant to today’s realities.
Keynote speakers tackled real issues. Eng. Philip Gichuki of Tana Water stressed the value of local knowledge in solving rural water challenges. Eng. Muasya from the National Irrigation Authority said irrigation must be treated as a key enabler of food security. From housing to transport, leaders urged engineers to think beyond blueprints—to build for people and community.
The Engineers Board of Kenya called on universities to fast-track accreditation processes and uphold ethics in training. There was also a strong call to support young and female engineers, and to modernize the regulatory framework.
By the close of Day Two, the message was clear: for Kenya to thrive, engineers must take the lead—not just in building structures, but in shaping a sustainable, inclusive future.
