The University of Nairobi, through the Faculty of Engineering, invites engineers, researchers, scientists, policymakers, industry professionals and other stakeholders to participate in the 8th Annual International Engineering Conference (EC2026), scheduled for October 22–23, 2026.

The conference will be held in a hybrid format, bringing together participants from Kenya and across the globe to share research, innovations and practical solutions addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing society.

Conference Theme

Themed “Transforming Society through Research Excellence, Artificial Intelligence and Other Emerging Technologies in a Globally Competitive Environment,” EC2026 will provide a platform for researchers and industry leaders to explore how engineering, scientific research, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies can contribute to sustainable development and global competitiveness.

The conference will feature discussions and presentations across five key sub-themes:

  1. AI-Enabled Infrastructure, Smart Cities, and Sustainable Construction
  2. Emerging Technologies for Climate-Smart Food, Water, and Health Systems
  3. The Next Generation of Energy Systems and Environmental Stewardship
  4. Intelligent Systems, Advanced Communications, and Space Technology
  5. Advanced Manufacturing, Materials Science, and Industrial Transformation

Call for Abstracts and Full Papers

Researchers and professionals are invited to submit original research abstracts and full papers aligned with the conference sub-themes.

Abstract Submission Guidelines

Abstracts should provide a clear and concise summary of the proposed research and should not exceed 300 words, excluding the title and authors' details.

Each abstract should include:

  • Title – A concise and descriptive title.
  • Authors and affiliations – Full names, institutions and the corresponding author's email address.
  • Background/Objectives – A brief description of the research problem or knowledge gap.
  • Methods – A summary of the research approach, tools or experimental design.
  • Results – Key findings or expected outcomes, including quantitative results where applicable.
  • Conclusion/Implications – The significance of the findings and their contribution to the selected conference sub-theme.
  • Keywords – Three to five relevant keywords.

Abstracts should be submitted in PDF or Microsoft Word format, using Times New Roman, 12-point font and single spacing. Figures, tables and extensive references should be avoided.

To facilitate the double-blind peer-review process, author names and affiliations should not appear in the body of the abstract and should instead be provided on a separate cover page.

Full Paper Submission

Authors whose abstracts are accepted will be invited to submit full papers for consideration for oral or poster presentations.

Full papers must:

  • Be original and unpublished work.
  • Be 4–6 pages, including figures, tables and references.
  • Be written in English.
  • Follow the EC2026 conference paper template.
  • Use Times New Roman, 12-point font and single spacing.
  • Be formatted on A4 paper with 1-inch (2.54 cm) margins on all sides.
  • Be submitted in PDF and Microsoft Word (.docx) formats.
  • Use either IEEE or APA citation style consistently.

Papers should generally follow the structure of Introduction, Methodology, Results and Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgments (where applicable), and References.

All full papers will undergo double-blind peer review. Authors should therefore ensure that identifying information does not appear in the main manuscript and is restricted to the title page.

An Opportunity to Showcase Research and Innovation

EC2026 provides an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to showcase innovative solutions, exchange knowledge, build professional networks and engage with experts from academia, industry and government.

The conference will also facilitate conversations on the application of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, advanced communications, smart infrastructure, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing and other innovations that are shaping the future of society.

Researchers are encouraged to take advantage of this platform to present their work, establish collaborations and contribute to conversations on engineering and technological solutions for a globally competitive and sustainable future.
