Overview

Philosophy

The philosophy of the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering program is to promote the design, manufacture, operation and maintenance of mechanical systems for the economic progress of society in an efficient, economical, and environmentally sustainable manner.

Objectives

The goal of the program is to create a pool of highly trained personnel for mechanical engineering education and research in view of the many upcoming universities in the country and in the global space

The programme shall commence at the beginning of the Academic Year and continue for a minimum of 21 months.  The programme duration shall be divided as follows:

 

PART I:  Course Work and Examinations                                                    9 months

PART II: Research Project and Thesis Presentations                                12 months

 

Part I of the programme shall be divided into two semesters of equal duration.

A holder of an Upper Second-Class degree of Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering of the University of Nairobi.

A holder of an upper second-class degree of Bachelor of Science in any other discipline of Engineering of the University of Nairobi.

A holder of an upper second-class degree of Bachelor of Science of the University of Nairobi.

A holder of a qualification awarded by an institution recognised by the Senate of the University of Nairobi as equivalent to one of the above qualifications of the University of Nairobi.

Careers open to holders of Maasters of Science in Mechanical Engineering include

  • Industrial Production Managers. Industrial production managers help to determine how to best use employees and equipment within a factory setting to meet production goals.
  • Research & Development Managers.
  • Consulting Mechanical Engineers.
  • Consulting Petroleum Engineers.
  • Academic and Research Institutions.
