The University of Nairobi Alumni Association (UoNAA) launched its first-ever 10 kilometer charity walk on Wednesday, April 16th, 2024. The initiative aims to increase the association's annual scholarship funding, from its current KES 2 million to KES 50 million. This ambitious fundraising effort reflects the alumni's commitment to supporting their alma mater and ensuring educational opportunities for deserving students. The inaugural walk is scheduled for Saturday, May 4th, 2024.

The 10 km walk is just one of several initiatives undertaken by UoNAA to raise the targeted KES 50 million and support over 5,000 needy students. Professor Ayub Gitau, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, represented the Vice Chancellor at the launch. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between all stakeholders, including sponsors, partners, students, and staff, to ensure the success of this groundbreaking alumni initiative.

Mr. Isaac Awuondo, Chairman of the Association, delivered a heartfelt call to action, urging all University of Nairobi alumni to contribute to their alma mater. Mr. Awuondo highlighted the collective power of the alumni network and expressed his appreciation to both the current corporate sponsors and those who have yet to join the cause.

Several partners made pledges, both financial and in-kind, demonstrating their commitment to this worthy cause. Corporate social responsibility is a key focus for many organizations. Participation in the walk aligns with their values. NCBA bank presented a significant initial contribution of KES. 250,000, with additional partners expected to join in the coming days.
