In a historic homecoming, the Faculty of Engineering welcomed back 22 of its most illustrious alumni on Friday, February 23rd, 2024. These titans of industry, led by Mr. Salim Hasham, graduated between 1971-1975 and have gone on to shape the Engineering and technical landscape over the past five decades across the globe. The alumni were visibly moved to reconnect with their shared origins.

This class holds particular significance, as they were among the trailblazing students who graduated with degrees from the University of Nairobi shortly after its charter in 1970. The Dean, Prof. Ayub Gitau, met their visit with warmth and enthusiasm, alongside heads of various departments, who recognized the profound impact these alumni had made both during their time as students and in their subsequent professional endeavors.

As the alumni embarked on a guided tour of the faculty, visiting laboratories and lecture halls, they reminisced about their formative years and marveled at the evolution of the campus infrastructure and academic offerings. A highlight of the visit was the meeting with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Prof. Leonida Kerubo, who lauded the alumni as exemplary ambassadors of the institution. The alumni were given a comprehensive tour of the main campus, reacquainting themselves with familiar landmarks like Taifa Hall, Gandhi Wing, and Jomo Kenyatta Memorial Library among many others, and witnessing firsthand the university's dedication to sustainability.

The return of these founding engineers serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring legacy of the University of Nairobi's Faculty of Engineering.
