The University of Nairobi's Annual Students' Recognition Ceremony celebrated the outstanding achievements of its diverse student body. The annual event, held on Friday, May 3, 2024, at Taifa Hall, honored 610 students across various categories, including academic excellence, research contributions, artistic talents, social responsibility initiatives, leadership roles, volunteerism, extracurricular activities, and athletic prowess.
Professor Ayub Gitau, the Dean, proudly presented the list of 72 awardees and commended their dedication and hard work. Anyanga Nelson Mandela received the Gandhi Smarak Nidhi Trustee Fund Award and the University of Nairobi Alumni Association Academic Award for being the faculty's best student.
Esteemed guests graced the event, including the Senate, faculty, and dignitaries. Prof. Leonida Kerubo, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, emphasized the university's role as a "center of excellence." At the same time, Prof. Stephen Kiama, the Vice-Chancellor, commended the outstanding caliber of UoN's students, declaring the institution's tradition of producing some of the nation's finest graduates.
The ceremony also fostered valuable connections and opportunities, with 107 strategic partners, including corporations and individual well-wishers, participating in recognizing and financially supporting outstanding students. Notable names like Eng. Carey Orege, Davis & Shirtliff, Metsec Cables Ltd, the Institute of Engineers of Kenya, and Isuzu East Africa Ltd contributed to this effort.
