The third edition of the annual Engineering Students Association kicked off today at the Manu Chandaria Auditorium at the UoN Towers.

The event attracted engineering students from the various local universities as well as Kyambogo and Makerere from Uganda.  The opening ceremony was presided over by the college principal Prof. Peter Ngau and Prof. Enos Njeru (principal College of Humanities and Social Sciences) who represented the university Vice Chancellor.

This years’ event is themed “let’s go green”. The main aim of this years’ event is climate change and how to mitigate it. The conference includes project presentations, panel discussions, exhibitions, keynote speeches among others. It will also include an African wear competition and will culminate with a tree planting session at Ngong hills.

In his opening presentation, Israeli deputy ambassador Mr. Eyal David pointed out the importance of water and environmental conservation and how Israel was able to convert desert land into productivity. He said that Israel was championing water conservation in several countries including Kenya and Tanzania.

The open discussion forum tackled the measures taken by the government and industry to combat climate change and pollutions.  Among the areas discussed was the ban of single use plastic ban and how it affects climate change. The day  ends with different workshops and exhibitions by students on 5th floor.
