The 2018 Dr. Patrick Musimba Award was held on March 13th 2018 at the Sarova Panafric Hotel.

The award, which is the brainchild of Dr. Patrick Mweu Musimba (MP Kibwezi west Constituency) started two years ago as a reward to the most innovative engineering student. The event was graced by the College Principal Prof. Peter Ngau, Dean School of Engineering Prof. Jackson Mbuthia, Siaya Gubernatorial aspirant Eng. Nicholas Gumbo and Dr. and Mrs. Patrick Musimba for Kibwezi West) among others. This year can be said to be the year of takeoff for the awards as they included guests from the industry and there will be a major follow up on the winning projects.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Ngau thanked Dr. Musimba who is an alumni of School of Business for coming back to mentor young engineers. He said that Engineering has a role of transformation for the country to achieve its development goals. He also thanked Prof. Mbuthia for being a leader in innovation in the country especially following the successful launch of a Nano Satellite. He also thanked Eng. Gumbo for being on board since the inception of the awards.

On his part, Prof. Mbuthia said that the award has speeded up innovation and is awakening the school to realizing its true potential. He said that it was time now to support the ideas presented in the awards as they can bring transformation in the society.    Dr. Musimba in his remarks said that engineers are the pillars and backbone of this nation and so they should be mentored and nurtured.

Following the award, there are plans to expose the winners to the industry by setting them up with potential investors. They will be required to pitch them and if successful they will get a chance to turn their concepts into reality.
