THE INTER-UNIVERSITY GENERAL ELECTRIC AWARD CEREMONY

REPORT ON THE INTER-UNIVERSITY GENERAL ELECTRIC AWARD CEREMONY HELD ON 21ST JUNE 2013

 

The GE Distributed Power University Challenge Award Ceremony, held at the University of Nairobi saw a number of students take time out from their usual activities to come and support the event fellow.

 

GE’s main objective of instituting this challenge was to engage young innovators in pursuing ideas for small scale power generation in line with vision 2030. The Challenge attracted students from University of Nairobi, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kenyatta University and Strathmore University.

 

The event was graced with the presence of:

  • Mr. John Rice, Vice Chairman of GE and President & CEO of GE Global Growth and Operations
  • Mr. Jay Ireland, President & CEO, GE Africa
  • Prof. Lucy W. Irungu , Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research, Production and Extension
  • Prof. S.K Mwea, The Dean, School of Engineering, to mention just a few.

 

The University of Nairobi team was awarded the third place position in the challenge where JKUAT came in second and KU topped them all in first place. We congratulate all the participants as well as General Electric for instituting this challenge and look forward to working more closely with GE in the future.
